Document Intake
An EN 10204 3.1 certificate is uploaded as a PDF or scanned image. Multi-page and low-resolution documents are accepted.
Flagship Project
We are developing an AI-assisted system that reads a scanned mill test certificate, validates its values against the relevant product standard, and combines them with carbon data into a traceable product passport.
R&D Stage — In Development
01 · INGEST
An EN 10204 3.1 certificate is uploaded as a PDF or scanned image. Multi-page and low-resolution documents are accepted.
02 · EXTRACT
Heat number, steel grade, chemical analysis (C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Ni, Mo) and mechanical results (yield, tensile, elongation, Charpy) are parsed into structured fields.
03 · VALIDATE
Every value is compared with the min/max limits of the relevant product standard. Out-of-range or missing items are flagged with the reason shown.
04 · PASSPORT
Validated technical data, heat traceability and embedded emissions come together in one record, queryable via QR code throughout the shipment.

When a heat's table is split across two pages the parts are stitched back together, and column mapping survives even if the header row is not repeated.
Decimal commas versus points, thousand separators, percent versus ppm, and MPa versus N/mm² are converted to one internal representation.
Yield limits change with diameter. The system reads the dimension on the document and applies the limit for that section range, rather than one fixed value.
Every extracted value is stored with its coordinates on the page. If a result is questioned, the exact line on the original certificate can be shown.
If the grade on the document uses DIN or JIS designation, the EN/ASME counterpart and the differences are shown; non-exact matches are flagged as such.
Dozens of certificates from one shipment are uploaded at once; results are grouped by heat number and only the problematic ones are surfaced.
Embedded emission figures from the supplier are bound to the same heat number, so carbon data sits next to the certificate instead of in a separate spreadsheet.
Past shipments are searchable by heat number, grade, supplier or date. When a customer asks two years later, the document is found in minutes.

Coverage expands according to the real document flow of our pilot partners, prioritising the standards we meet most often.
Skewed scans, ink stamps printed over values, hand-merged cells and headers in six languages — all in the same folder.
Knowing that Rₑ is yield and Rₘ is tensile, and that 1.7225 = 42CrMo4 = AISI 4140, is metallurgy — not OCR.
Limits vary by standard, grade, delivery condition and dimension. Encoding them correctly and keeping them current is the real asset.
A false pass means non-conforming material reaches the line. That puts the accuracy bar far above what a generic document tool needs to clear.
| Today: By Hand | Goal: Automated | |
|---|---|---|
| Reading a certificate | Read from PDF by eye, typed into Excel | Document turned into structured data by AI |
| Standard check | Compared one by one from a printed table | Instant comparison against a standards library |
| Carbon data | Separate email threads, scattered spreadsheets | Emission data attached to the same record as the certificate |
| Traceability | Paper files, risk of loss in the archive | Queryable down to the heat number via QR |
